Citations and sources

Sources are the pages an answer cites. Basiro keeps the raw answer, the brand mention, the cited domain and the cited URL apart.

What you'll do

  1. Open an answer and read the raw text.
  2. See which domains and URLs were cited.
  3. Mark a lost question when your brand should have been the source and was not.

Answers, raw answers and lost questions

The raw answer is the text the engine returned. A lost question is one where the brand is missing, wrong, or not the cited source you intended.

Cited domains and cited URLs

A cited domain is the site an answer points to. A cited URL is the specific page. For a fix with a target URL, success means that URL appears in a later answer's cited URLs.

A brand mention is not a citation. A crawler visit is not a citation. Publishing the page is not resolution.

What the result means

You can tell whether the engine cited your domain, a competitor, or a third-party page. You should not treat a mention as that proof.

Important distinctions

  • Basiro does not guarantee a citation or a first-place ranking.
